Coaching for Diversity Partnership
Corageous Conversations
As a personal coach, Dirk Velten specializes in supporting white men to effectively address questions and challenges related to the thornier issues of diversity, such as racism, sexism, and homophobia. Through a compassionate blend of support and challenge, Dirk's approach encourages both self-reflection and concrete action. The result is empowered partnerships with women, people of color, and other white men in transforming the dilemmas we all face around diversity.

Consulting: White Men in Diversity Partnership
The philosophies underlying Valuing Diversity initiatives, anti-racism work, and other efforts toward building an equitable world are meant to be fully respectful and inclusive of all people, including, naturally, men of European descent. Still, many white men see these concerns as "someone else's issues," or even feel that today's changes are intended to turn the tables against them. Those on the cutting edge of leadership, however, are beginning to work proactively and in full partnership with women and people of color to address the unfinished business of eliminating racism, sexism, and homophobia.
As a white man, Dirk Velten has made it an essential part of his personal and professional learning journey to work with other white men in finding an honorable place to stand in this time of remarkable change. In doing so, he has found an increasing number of men around the country with the desire to learn, grow, and play a positive role in this area. As they become clear about how the predominant culture and systems favor their group with certain privileges, they are also discovering that those benefits come at a cost to them as individuals - emotionally, relationally, and even spiritually. This awareness is inspiring these men to act as allies with members of other groups, and with one another, motivated by a sense of "enlightened self interest," rather than coercion, shame or guilt.
Dirk is building relationships with colleagues who are breaking new ground in this area, and is an associate of White Men as Full Diversity Partners, a cutting edge organization in the field of Diversity born of the partnership between Bill Proudman, Michael Welp, and Jo Ann Morris-Scott. In addition to co-facilitating learning labs for WMFDP, Dirk will co-produce the 4-day learning lab "White Men's Caucus on Eliminating Racism, Sexism, and Homophobia in the Workplace" in North Texas in the fall of 2004.
Dirk is also available in the Dallas area through Mandorla Resources in the following ways:
Presentations on involving white men
Consulting to those implementing Diversity initiatives
Private counseling and coaching sessions (see above)
There are many paths being taken by institutions to create a broader sense of inclusion and empowerment within their organizations. As that work moves forward, more and more people are recognizing how crucial it is that white men take a full partnership role in the process. Regardless of the approach being applied in any given situation, Mandorla Resources International can collaborate with existing efforts in order to develop this important piece of the diversity puzzle.
