Cherry Trees
There's no fancy way to say this.
The two cherry trees down the street remind me of us.
Their trunks are
so spiral that years ago they must have
come twirling up out of the ground like barber poles,
crazy with life like we were before we had to stop
and think about happiness.
We stand here
now loaded with lessons
repeated so often
they're turning sweet,
we're introducing ourselves to each other
with something like accuracy,
I do these things sometimes,
can you live with it?
And somehow the answer keeps coming up yes,
it must have been last summer's growth,
that last little twist that brought us face to face.-- Francette Cerulli
